The duration of each of the Fellowships at this clinic, is six months. Each begins, either on February 1, or on August 1, each year. During the fellowship, successful applicants will be exposed to supervised consulting with patients, including exposure to both pre- and post-surgical patients. They will also be exposed to a variety of surgical experiences, including both assisting, and supervised operating. In this clinic, there is neither the opportunity for consulting without supervision, nor for operating without supervision. Therefore, a Fellow is not required to write out prescriptions, investigation forms and so on.
Fellows are required to work with their fellowship supervisor(s) for the majority of their time. Some of their time will also be allocated for research: and, both clinical and/or primary research can be carried out, with the aim of publishing and adding to the world literature. This activity is also regarded as an opportunity to provide peer review for the specialists in this clinic.
The fellowship programs have now been running for over 20 years, with great success. There have been both national, and international fellows, with the latter coming from the USA, Canada, Britain, Scotland, New Zealand, Spain, Germany and others. The programs are generally booked up about 2 years ahead, and we do not confirm any application for fellowship further out than that. It is important to realise that this opportunity is for a limited period of time, and that it is very difficult to both become resident in Australia, and to get a visa to work in Australia. All applicants are therefore approved for training for that period of time, on the expectation that they will return to their country of origin, once their Fellowship is completed.
There are three fellowships available within our group.
- Dr Greg Witherow and Dr Greg Janes - lower limb, knee and shoulder respectively
- Dr Peter Annear and Prof Markus Kuster - sports knee surgery, knee and hip replacement
- Dr Peter Hales - hand and upper limb
If you wish to apply, please email us (firstname.lastname@example.org) with a current CV, current level of training, two written references from recent colleagues, and the time frame you would be interested in.
