Dr Nicholas Calvert is an Australian and internationally trained orthopaedic surgeon. He has sub specialised in partial/total knee replacement, total hip replacement, and revision joint replacement. His extensive research background ensures he provides up to date and evidence based care for his patients.
Dr Calvert completed subspecialist training at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, part of the Oxford University Hospitals Trust. This internationally renowned centre leads the country in bone and joint infection expertise, and was the centre that developed the Oxford partial knee replacement. His fellowship focused on primary hip and knee arthroplasty, revision hip and knee arthroplasty, limb salvage, and bone infection with internationally renowned surgeons. During this time he had the privilege of learning the surgical technique of the Oxford Partial Knee Arthroplasty from the world experts on it’s use.
Dr Calvert completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree at the University of Western Australia. He subsequently completed pre-vocational training at Royal Perth Hospital before commencing his Orthopaedic training in Western Australia. During training he published 12 peer-reviewed articles and completed a Masters of Surgery degree at the University of Western Australia. For his Masters thesis Dr Calvert developed a potential method of personalised chemotherapy treatment in bone and soft tissue cancer using next-generation human genome sequencing. He is currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Western Australia focused on improving functional outcomes and reducing pain following knee reconstruction and replacement.
Dr Calvert graduated high school at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School and has gained experienced internationally before returning to Perth. After becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons at the start of 2021 Dr Calvert worked as a Locum Orthopaedic Surgeon servicing the South West at Bunbury Regional Hospital, St John of God Bunbury and Busselton Hospital.
